Nebraska has been one of the strongest teams in the Big Ten through the first month of the season. The Cornhuskers are undefeated at 5-0 with wins over Ohio, Bowling Green, North Dakota, Michigan State and Maryland, all by double digits. But Saturday brings the true test, when No. 7 Indiana, another undefeated team, comes to Lincoln.
With less than 24 hours until kickoff, Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule spoke about his decision to stay at Nebraska rather than leave for one of last year’s head coaching vacancies, and what he hopes to build in Lincoln.
“There was never really a time where we considered leaving here. That’s because I believe not only in the place, but what it could be,” Rhule said Friday on “Bussin’ & Pate on Campus.” “What I will say is your expectations have to match what you’re doing. You have to give people the resources. If you want to win a national championship, just go look at what national championship teams are doing. And let’s spend that. Let’s do that. And I thought, we have the resources here; let’s put them towards our roster, and let’s continue to build … If you hire me, you’re hiring someone that is going to build things the old school way. The Nebraska way, and try to build it on concrete. So it’s been slow.”…
