NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – A cold front began to move into the area yesterday. After stalling out overnight, it is now advancing southeast through the rest of the area today.
Monday: A cold front is roughly half way through Nebraska early this morning (8:00am), lined up from near Sioux City, Iowa to Imperial, Nebraska. Another day of heat is expected out ahead of the cold front. Behind the front, it’ll be a much different story. Ahead of the cold front, temperatures will rise into the 80s and lower 90s. There might even be a couple of mid 90s in the far southeast. The best chance of a record high today will be in Lincoln where today’s record is 93°. That is currently my forecast high for today there. Winds ahead of the front will be breezy out of the southwest at 10 to 20 mph with a few gusts possibly over 25 mph. North of the cold front, temperatures will be dropping a bit or a little slower to rise. Highs north of the boundary will be in the 70s and 60s with the coolest temperatures in far Northern Nebraska. There may be some that don’t get out of the 50s. There are areas of low clouds and fog in Northern Nebraska. It could be very stubborn to clear today, keeping temperatures down.
This evening, isolated thundershowers will be possible from North Central Kansas to Southeast Nebraska. Severe storms are unlikely. Low temperatures overnight will range from near 40° northwest to the low/mid 50s southeast. Some clouds will be on the increase with patchy fog not out of the question…
