BROOKHAVEN — According to the United States Drought Monitor at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska, Lincoln County entered this week’s heavy rainfall under a moderate drought. Conditions had improved from the summer where the area was in exceptional drought.
National Weather Service in Jackson reported the area received 3.44 inches of rain in the last two days as of 11:53 a.m. Thursday. Higher localized amounts in thunderstorms is possible. Additional rain could follow going into Saturday with rain chances being between 60 percent to 80 percent Friday and Saturday. Dry and cool weather will start Sunday.
NWS warns there is a moderate risk for heavy rainfall for Mississippi from February 3 to February 5. Continued rain could be enough to bring Lincoln County out of the drought if rainfall this week has not already done so.
