Two staff members at Lincoln prisons in Nebraska have been seriously injured in separate assaults by inmates, raising concerns about safety and security within correctional facilities.
In a concerning development reported by KLKN this week, two staff members were seriously injured in assaults at two different Lincoln prisons this week, according to the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services.
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) said the first incident occurred on Wednesday at the Reception and Treatment Center. An inmate assaulted a staff member in a housing unit, repeatedly punching them in the head.
The employee sustained a concussion from the attack.
“When a staff member entered a housing unit to escort an inmate to a holding cell, the inmate began to punch the staff member in the head,” a news released by NDCS said.
A second assault took place on Thursday at the Nebraska State Penitentiary. Officials reported that an inmate, suspected of possessing contraband, defied orders and assaulted multiple staff members.
