Spring breakers’ paradise or potential peril? Popular destinations Jamaica and the Bahamas face travel warnings, casting a shadow on some students’ vacation plans.
Travelers planning trips to Jamaica and the Bahamas are being advised to exercise caution as the U.S. State Department has issued travel advisories for both destinations.
The advisories, which come at a time when many students are planning their spring break, highlight concerns about safety in these popular Caribbean locations.
According to KLKN, the Bahamas has received a level two advisory, urging travelers to exercise increased caution. This advisory follows reports of 18 murders in Nassau since the beginning of the year, as stated by the U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas.
Steve Glenn, chairman of Lincoln-based Executive Travel, advises tourists to stay within the confines of all-inclusive hotels for safety. He cautions those venturing beyond these areas to travel in groups and remain highly vigilant.
“Generally, if you stay in all-inclusive (hotels), you’re in a pretty safe environment,” said Steve on KLKN. “However, if you go out beyond that, you got to be very, very cautious. You should go out in groups and maintain a high level of vigilance.”
