A 100-year-old woman from Waverly, Nebraska, sustained serious injuries after her sedan was struck by a semi-truck.
The crash occurred near 141st Street and Highway 6, as reported by the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office (LSO) and further detailed by 10/11 NOW.
According to the report, the semi-truck, which was heading westbound on Highway 6, collided with the southbound sedan driven by Darleen Marolf, a centenarian known affectionately as “Waverly’s first First Lady,” due to her marriage to the town’s first mayor.
The collision took place around 3:00 p.m., CT prompting an immediate response from local authorities.
Meanwhile, the 29-year-old semi-truck driver from Franklin, Indiana, was cited for careless driving in connection with the incident.
Marolf was promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries, which included two broken ribs, two cracked vertebrae, and several bumps and bruises.
Despite the severity of her injuries, however, a family member of Marolf expressed optimism about her recovery.
