Lincoln Animal Control is promoting Spay/Neuter Awareness Month. They are encouraging residents to spay or neuter their pets. This is due to local animal shelters often being full. Spaying or neutering can control pet overpopulation. It can also prevent health and behavioral problems, says Steve Beal, Animal Control Manager.
Beal states that financial help is available for low-income pet owners. This aid can cover some of the spay/neuter costs. Pet owners can contact Lincoln Animal Control or visit their office for more details. In the 2022-2023 fiscal year, the organization helped 89 pet owners spay or neuter their pets.
Spaying or neutering pets has additional benefits. Pets that have these procedures are usually calmer and more obedient. They also interact better with other pets.
Spayed or neutered pets are less likely to wander. They are also less prone to certain cancers. If pets are spayed or neutered, owners can save on annual pet licensing fees.
For more details on spaying and neutering benefits, people can visit the American Veterinary Medical Association website or talk to a vet. Lincoln Animal Control continues to encourage responsible pet ownership through such initiatives.
