USC Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley has long been held in esteem among college football fans as one of the top offensive minds in the nation, and one of the best coaches in the sport.
After his 3-4 start to the 2024 season, though, that narrative is starting to change, quickly.
After USC’s embarrassing loss to the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday afternoon, fans are starting to publicly call for Riley to be dismissed of his duty as the head coach of the Trojans. USC held a 28-14 lead with 13 minutes to play in the 4th quarter. The Trojans then gave up 15-unanswered points over the closing minutes and lost on the road, 29-28.
Since they started the year 2-0 with wins over LSU and Utah State, the Trojans have lost four of their last five games.
In his three years in Los Angeles, Riley is now 22-12.
Going forward, USC will have to win three of their next five games in order to become bowl eligible on the season. That’s a crazy thing to say, considering that some had them in the College Football Playoff picture before the year started.
