Nebraska volleyball captain and standout liber Lexi Rodriguez has earned another weekly award.
The Huskers’ senior was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
A two-time conference Defensive Player of the Year, the honor for Rodriguez isn’t surprising at all.
She averaged 4.17 digs per set last week to help the Huskers sweep both Washington and No. 12 Oregon on the road. During that road trip, she passed former Nebraska star Kayla Banwarth for second in program history with 1,731 career digs, trailing only Justin Wong-Orantes’ 1,890.
The Big Red held Oregon to a .133 hitting percentage in a match where Rodriguez tallied 14 digs. She followed up that performance with 11 more digs as the Huskers limited Washington to a .158 hitting percentage.
Thanks in part of her efforts, Nebraska leads the entire Big Ten with a .162 opponent hitting percentage this season.
The Huskers (24-1, 14-0 in Big Ten play) have won 21 straight matches and totaled 18 sweeps on the season. They’re currently alone in first place in the conference and are still ranked No. 2 in the country.
