Lincoln man with untreated mental illness carried out deadly shooting at Indiana laundromat

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (KOLN) – Police in Lafayette, Indiana, have closed their investigation into a December laundromat shooting carried out by a Lincoln man, which left two people dead — including the shooter — and two others injured.

Authorities identified the shooter as 73-year-old Louis McGlothlin, who had lived in Lafayette as a child. Investigators determined he planned the attack and suffered from severe, undiagnosed mental health issues. During the investigation, with the help of the Lincoln Police Department, officers uncovered videos, some recorded years ago, indicating his intent.

McGlothlin left Lincoln on the morning of Dec. 5 and arrived in Lafayette that evening. At 7:39 p.m., he entered Lafayette Laundry and began firing indiscriminately. Surveillance footage showed him leaving one minute later and shooting himself in the head outside…
