More snow will melt today for the areas that still have it – south Lincoln has lost just about all the snowpack already, seeing a sharp cutoff in snow amounts across the county.
North Lincoln and northern Lancaster County had 5-8″ compared to south Lincoln’s 1-2″.
But snow cover will quickly diminish with it being March!
Melting snow in March is easier because of a higher sun angle, so the energy coming from the sun is more concentrated. That makes for warmer ground temperatures. This also means the air doesn’t need to be above freezing to start the melting process as the warmer ground is already above freezing…
