The 15th Annual Day Without Shoes event was held Tuesday to draw attention to the plight of those in our community who are in need of footwear. People’s City Mission CEO, Pastor Tom Barber , kicked off his shoes and led a walk from Cornhusker Bank at 83rd and ‘O’ Street to their Help Center near 68th and P.
“When we first started this we’d go from their old headquarters to the shelter,” Barber says. “We had to go down dirt roads and my feet would be a little bloody by the time I got there. Now we’re on sidewalks, so a lot easier.”
Cornhusker Bank President and CEO Barry Lockard says he’s grateful for the support of Lincoln residents over the years. “We’ve had over 347,000 pairs of shoes that have been given in the City of Lincoln and about $118,000 to help them buy shoes and help people.”…
