Lincoln police and fire departments host blood drive for International Firefighters Day

LINCOLN, NEB — The Lincoln Police Department and Lincoln Fire and Rescue teamed up to host a joint blood drive at the Public Safety Center in honor of International Firefighters Day. The event featured the Nebraska Community Blood Bank mobile unit.

MJ Lierman, public information officer for Lincoln Fire and Rescue, emphasized the critical need for blood donations in the community.

“There’s always a need in the community for donating blood and having blood products available, so we’re very fortunate to have the Nebraska Community Blood Bank watching out for us,” said Lierman. “We see a lot of accidents and things, and there’s also a lot need for people with cancer, people, different reasons that everyone may possibly come into contact with somebody who needs one of the blood products. So we are encouraging you to be a life saver with us and help us by keeping that blood supply up.”…
