NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – As of the time of this writing (mid-morning Monday), a cold front is located from around Wahoo to Phillipsburg, Kansas. Ahead of the front, the air is quite warm and humid with breezy south southwest winds. Behind the cold front, winds are fairly breezy behind the front out of the north northeast at 10 to 20 mph. The air gets cooler and drier as you go to the northwest behind the cold front. There are a few leftover showers and isolated thunderstorms, mainly over Eastern Nebraska. Behind the front, there have been a few other sprinkles or very light rain, where the chance is lower for most of today.
The cold front will continue to slide slowly southeast today. Expect the warmest temperatures ahead of the front in the 80s to near 90° with humid conditions. Most behind the front will be much cooler in the 70s. While a few sprinkles or light showers will continue behind the front today, the focus will be closer to the cold front during the mid to late afternoon. Thunderstorms will fire up near the front over Southeast Nebraska to North Central Kansas. While initially, there might be some large hail and perhaps an isolated tornado, the main threat will be damaging wind gusts over 60 mph. Locally heavy rain will be possible as heavy rain could fall in a short amount of time.
Later into the night, some mostly non-severe storms will be possible behind the cold front, some of which could continue into early tomorrow morning. Low temperatures overnight will range from the upper 50s northwest to the upper 60s southeast…
