Nebraska patrol investigating death near Ashland

(Ashland) — Nebraska state authorities are investigating an incident in which a man shot himself in front of an officer near Ashland early Saturday morning.

The Nebraska State Patrol says at around 4:30 a.m., the patrol was contacted by the Ashland Police Department regarding an incident that had just occurred. Authorities say a preliminary investigation shows that an Ashland police officer had responded to a reported crash near the intersection of Highway 6 and Highway 63, southwest of Ashland.

Upon arrival, the patrol says the officer observed the driver involved in the crash outside the vehicle before the subject pulled out a handgun and shot himself. According to the patrol, there is no indication that the officer fired any shots during the incident…
