NE State Patrol investigates self-inflicted death near Ashland

ASHLAND, Neb. — The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the death of an individual who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound near Ashland. The incident took place in the presence of an Ashland Police Officer.

According to the Nebraska State Patrol, the Ashland Police Department contacted them at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Saturday regarding the incident. Preliminary investigations revealed that an Ashland Police Officer had responded to a report of a crash near the intersection of Highway 6 and Highway 63, southwest of Ashland.

Upon the officer’s arrival, the driver involved in the crash was observed outside the vehicle. The individual then pulled out a handgun and shot himself. Authorities confirmed that there is no indication the officer fired any shots during the incident…
