Open Harvest marks half a century of helping the community

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A Lincoln grocery store with deep roots in the community is celebrating a major milestone this week.

Open Harvest Co-op Grocery is marking 50 years of serving the Lincoln area. Over those five decades, the store has gone through multiple moves and changes, growing from a small buying club into a full-service cooperative grocery store.

The co-op’s origins date back to the early 1970s, when a group of Lincoln households began pooling their resources to access affordable, healthy food. In 1975, Open Harvest officially opened its first storefront near 17th and Randolph streets…
