LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Lincoln Public Schools said it’s adapting to potential changes in federal funding, after the U.S. Department of Education announced it would be pausing nearly $6 billion in funding nationwide.
Among those cuts were about $40 million in grants for schools across Nebraska. Breaking it down to the impact on Lincoln, LPS said it’s identified potential cuts totaling about $8.2 million that could affect this upcoming school year.
The district said that money would impact about 44 full time equivalent staff. That number also includes this year’s portion of funding lost from a 5-year grant supporting school based mental health services…
