Now very hot, humid in eastern Nebraska before late storms

After a delay, dangerous heat and humidity is anticipated for this afternoon.

A Heat Advisory will be in effect for Lincoln, Lancaster County and far eastern Nebraska from noon until 8 p.m. Wednesday night. The heat index will peak in the lower 100s during the afternoon especially for those in orange below.

Actual air temperatures will be soar today with the clearing skies and sunshine. We’ll easily warm now to the lower and middle 90s, yet it’ll feel worse with the high humidity.

Warm temperatures in the morning plus tons of sun help us into the 90s here in Lincoln beyond lunchtime.

The heat index will be over 100° by that time, too.

Then a cold front later today clashes with the hot and humid airmass out ahead of it for storm development. That cold front will act as a lifting mechanism for disorganized storm development first from northeast Nebraska back toward southwest Nebraska this afternoon and evening.

Then some strengthening to those storms with some organization happens through northeast Nebraska, where the risk for severe weather is a bit higher…
