Paratroopers to Land at Chimney Rock in Honor of National Airborne Day

BAYARD, Neb. — On the morning of Friday, August 15, the Nebraska National Guard will conduct a training exercise featuring a series of paratrooper jumps near one of Nebraska’s most iconic landmarks. Between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., paratroopers will descend onto the Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation’s north field as part of a coordinated training operation.

The public is invited to watch the exercises, with the best viewing from Walk to the Rock Trail C and the Foundation’s Chimney Rock patio overlook. Additional vantage points are available at the Ethel S. and Christopher J. Abbott Visitor Center. Alongside the impressive aerial display, visitors can also explore static displays of military vehicles and equipment presented on-site by the Nebraska National Guard.
