Tree Damage Clean Up, Power Restoration Ongoing in Lincoln Following Weekend Storms

LINCOLN–(KFOR Aug. 10)–Mother Nature dealt a couple of big shots severe weather across eastern Nebraska this weekend, leaving behind tree damage and numerous power outages, while causing some flooding.

The first round of severe weather struck early Saturday morning, when thunderstorms produced 91 mph wind gusts at the Lincoln Airport, while other gusts of 83 mph were reported near Malcolm and 82 mph at Raymond, based on reports from automated stations and observations reported to the National Weather Service office in Valley.

The strong winds are to blame for widespread tree damage across Lincoln and Lancaster County, causing power outages to 33,000 Lincoln Electric System customers, according to LES’ manager of communications Kelley Porter. It prompted a large response…
