Joesef Barraza sentenced to life in prison for murdering Carly Schaaf in 2021

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Joesef Barraza, the 28-year-old man convicted in the murder and rape of 23-year-old Carly Schaaf — along with the rapes of two other women — was sentenced to life in prison on Thursday.

Judge Lori Maret sentenced Barraza to life imprisonment, along with 120-150 years, after being convicted of first-degree murder and three counts of first-degree sexual assault. His sentence comes without the possibility of parole. He was given zero days credit for time served.

Judge Lori Maret, before handing down his sentence, said, “His lack of sorrow, remorse, shame, or even disgust for his own actions show he is missing something that would allow him to be a productive member of any society.”…
