LPD Begins Downtown Safety Enforcement Effort

Lincoln Police have launched an enforcement project focused on vehicle and pedestrian traffic in downtown and surrounding neighborhoods. Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says officers will work overtime to keep downtown streets safe.

“Downtown Lincoln is one of the city’s busiest districts, and the large number of vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and scooters sharing the road creates unique safety challenges,” Thomas says. “Officers have observed violations such as drivers failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, excessive speeding, distracted driving and vehicles blocking intersections.”

Thomas says these behaviors increase the risk of crashes and endanger both drivers and pedestrians. LPD is urging all drivers to use extra caution in downtown Lincoln, obey speed limits and remain alert for pedestrians and cyclists. Pedestrians are also encouraged to use marked crosswalks, obey traffic signals and avoid distractions while crossing streets…
