Squirrel sparks garage fire in Lincoln, no injuries reported

LINCOLN, Neb. — A garage fire in Lincoln over the weekend was sparked by an unlikely culprit: a squirrel. According to MJ Lierman with Lincoln Fire and Rescue, crews responded to the blaze on Saturday at North 34th and R Street.

“The detached garage that had caught on fire, it was determined, damages I don’t have the value of the garage, but it was determined that a squirrel was caught on the wires above,” said Lierman.

Lierman explained that the squirrel’s actions led to debris falling into some grass, igniting a fire that spread to the garage. “The debris had fallen down into some grass and started the grass on fire which then extended into the garage, there were no other structures around, no other exposures, that’s what was determined to be the cause,” said Lierman…
