Lincoln dealership loses $62K after man forges two checks, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A Lincoln dealership lost more than $62,000 after a man allegedly forged two checks earlier this year, according to court documents.

On March 24, Lincoln Police were called to Anderson Ford for a report of belated fraud. A financial officer told investigators that 60-year-old Luther Matthies had sold his 2015 Chevrolet Silverado to Anderson Mazda on Jan. 14. The dealership wrote Matthies a check for $17,300.

Investigators said Matthies later deposited two counterfeit Anderson Mazda checks—one for $18,000 on March 14 and another for $180,000 on March 17—into an account he had just opened with First National Bank of Omaha on March 13…
