Man charged with hate crime in UNL assault sentenced to probation

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A 22-year-old Norfolk man accused in a hate crime incident at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln was sentenced to probation on Friday.

Court documents show Cale Wacker was given one year and six months of probation for third-degree assault, a misdemeanor.

The hate crime enhancement, which would have elevated the charge to a Class IV felony, was dropped as part of a plea deal on July 2.
