Brother of man convicted in Carly Schaaf’s murder sentenced for hiding body

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The brother of the man convicted in Carly Schaaf’s murder has been sentenced for his role in hiding the body.

After taking a plea deal, Danyl Barraza, 20, was convicted of accessory to manslaughter, instead of accessory to murder. He has been sentenced to three years at the Nebraska Department of Corrections with 316 days credit for time served. After his release from prison, Barraza will begin a year and a half of supervised release.

In August, Danyl’s brother, Joesef, told the court that he talked his brother into helping conceal Schaaf’s body, and to be lenient with him.

A jury found Joesef guilty of Schaaf’s murder and rape on June 23. He has since been sentenced to life in prison.
