Speeding fines in Lincoln increase for first time in nearly 30 years

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Fines for speeding violations in the city of Lincoln have increased for the first time since 1996.

The Lincoln Municipal Code was updated to reflect the new state law that went into effect in September.

The Lincoln Police Department wants to remind drivers of these increased fines plus additional court costs:

  • $50 for 1-5 mph over (up from $10)
  • $75 for 6-10 mph over (up from $25)
  • $125 for 11-15 mph over (up from $75)
  • $200 for 16-20 mph over (up from $125)
  • $300 for 21-35 mph over (up from $200)
  • $400 for 36+ mph over (up from $300)

For 1-20 mph over, the fines will be doubled if the violation occurs in a school zone or maintenance, repair and construction zones…
