Lincoln Woman Falls Victim to Jury Duty, Bitcoin Scam

LINCOLN–(KFOR Oct. 17)–Scammers are not letting up in trying to get money from you and will do it anyway possible, even pretending to be law enforcement contacting you for missing jury duty.

It happened on Thursday to a 29-year-old Lincoln woman, who said she got that call from someone claiming to be with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, using the rank and name of Lt. Eric Hamilton. Lincoln Police public information manager Erika Thomas says the woman was told to withdraw $5,800 to fix the problem and put it into a Bitcoin ATM in three separate accounts.

“After she completed those transactions, the scammers requested more money. That’s when the victim drove to LPD headquarters to report the fraud,” Thomas said…
