LINCOLN, Neb — Investigator John Rennerfeldt of the Lincoln Police Department has received the Mayor’s Award of Excellence for his exceptional work in solving two shooting incidents in The Railyard. Nominated by Sgt. Wendi Ground in the safety category, Rennerfeldt’s efforts resulted in multiple felony arrests, underscoring the city’s dedication to tackling serious crime.
The incidents, which occurred in 2023 and 2024, presented significant challenges due to the complexity of information from those involved. Despite these obstacles, Rennerfeldt conducted thorough scene investigations, gathered crucial evidence, reviewed extensive video footage, and collaborated with partner agencies, including the Omaha Police Department and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
In the first incident, Rennerfeldt drafted 25 legal documents, including eight search and arrest warrants, leading to seven felony arrests. Two individuals are currently serving prison sentences, and a third is awaiting trial.
