‘I’m here because I care’: Student workers behind UNL’s proposed budget cuts

Since the University of Nebraska-Lincoln announced its proposed $27.5 million budget cuts in September, groups involved in the programs at risk have been working to prove their worth to Chancellor Rodney Bennett and the Academic Planning Committee through petitions and public hearings.

One of these groups is student workers – a unique circle of young people fighting for their programs and jobs while also balancing academic responsibilities. These students said they fear they may lose their jobs, in addition to their educational opportunities.
