Fifteen students from the University Honors Program and Learning Communities spent their fall break volunteering in Kansas City. On October 20 and 21, 2025, the group joined the Honors Program’s first fall break service trip. They volunteered at Habitat for Humanity and the Kansas City Zoo.
At Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore, students unloaded, organized, and priced donations. They also assisted customers. Kit Menzia, a first-year insect science major, said she was proud to support a store that helps make home improvement affordable for local residents.
At the Kansas City Zoo, students worked with the horticulture team. They dug up and repotted plants for winter and prepared new planting sites along tram pathways. Zuri Moore, a first-year biological sciences major, said the experience involved teamwork and gave a sense of accomplishment…
