SNAP benefits for more than 150,000 low income Nebraskans will be paused in November due to the government shutdown. Pastor Tom Barber, CEO of the People’s City Mission in Lincoln, tells KLIN News they are bracing for an increase in people seeking food.
“Right now we’re over 400 that are actually staying with us that we feed,” Barber says. “We expect more to come in who maybe aren’t staying with us who just need a meal.” Across town at their Help Center, Barber says right now they are assisting about 27,000 people with food.
“We think that could jump to well over 30,000 temporarily just for food.” He tells KLIN News they are not sure exactly what’s going to happen but says they it’s possible they take a massive hit. “Right now we are just trying to batten down the hatches, we’re very concerned.”…
