Lincoln resident honored for donating over 3,000 units of blood and plasma

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska Community Blood Bank (NCBB) is set to honor Lincoln resident Gary Myers on Oct. 30 for his remarkable achievement of donating more than 3,000 units of blood, plasma, and platelets over his lifetime. Myers, who began donating whole blood at age 19 while in college, has become one of the nation’s most dedicated donors.

Myers’ journey began with whole blood donations, but he soon transitioned to plasma donations due to his rare AB+ blood type. He joined a specialized plasma program that allowed him to donate twice weekly, a routine he maintained diligently. His commitment was so strong that he once flew home during a family vacation just to keep his plasma appointment…
