LPD Begins ‘Make It Click’ Seatbelt Enforcement Project

In an effort to ensure drivers and passengers are buckled up, Lincoln Police will be taking part in the national ‘Make It Click’ Campaign from November 26-30. “Officers will focus enforcement efforts across the city, especially during peak travel times around the Thanksgiving holiday,” says Public Information Manager Erika Thomas.

“Seat belts are one of the most effective tools for saving lives. Properly worn front-seat belt use reduces the risk of fatal injury by about 45% for passenger‐car occupants and up to 60% for light-truck occupants.”

Thomas says Nebraska continues to lag behind national averages in seat belt use. “In a 2023 survey, Nebraska’s rate was approximately 77.3%, placing it near the bottom among U.S. states.” Fatal crashes often involve unbelted people. In Nebraska in 2019, 124 of 248 of people killed in crashes were not wearing seat belts…
