LINCOLN–(KFOR Nov. 27)-The Lincoln Police Department is conducting a seatbelt enforcement project through November 30th. Officers will focus enforcement efforts across the city, especially during peak travel times around the Thanksgiving holiday. The enforcement effort is part of the national “Make It Click” campaign to create a visible, community-wide reminder that wearing a seat belt is a simple action with profound consequences.
Seat belts are one of the most effective tools for saving lives. Properly worn front-seat belt use reduces the risk of fatal injury by about 45% for passenger‐car occupants and up to 60% for light-truck occupants. However, Nebraska continues to lag behind national averages in seat belt use. In a 2023 survey, Nebraska’s rate was approximately 77.3%, placing it near the bottom among U.S. states.
