Lincoln Public Schools Students Earn Top Honors for School Newspapers and Yearbooks

This fall, students from Lincoln Public Schools (LPS) received recognition for their work in student journalism. At the Nebraska High School Press Association (NHSPA) Fall Convention, Southeast High School and Southwest High School received Cornhusker Awards for their school newspapers and yearbooks for the 2024-25 academic year. The event included students, advisors, and professional journalists from across Nebraska.

The Cornhusker Award is the highest honor given each year to high school media programs in Nebraska. It covers newspapers, yearbooks, broadcast, and digital media. NHSPA Executive Director Leslie Klein said the awards support journalism programs and encourage students to continue their work. Klein noted the achievements of the Southeast Knights and Southwest Silver Hawks and their impact at the state level.

Southwest High School’s yearbook, The Talon, received the Cornhusker Award for the sixth time in seven years. This is their fourth consecutive win. Judges noted the yearbook’s variety of stories and photography, as well as its consistent theme and organized content.
