UNL study finds E30 fuel doesn’t harm state vehicles

A University of Nebraska-Lincoln study looking at the use of higher ethanol blends in state-owned vehicles found no observable negative effects on engine performance. These findings challenge long-standing concerns about ethanol use in non-flex fuel vehicles.

The study, led by Dr. Rajib Saha, an associate professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering at UNL, analyzed data from nearly 100 state fleet vehicles fueled with E30 and compared their performance to vehicles using standard E15 fuel.

“This is sort of the second phase of the study,” Saha said. “We did an initial study, which was a year-long study in partnership with the Nebraska Corn Board and Ethanol Board.”…
