Research center in Lincoln preserves heritage of Germans from Russia

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The American Historical Society of Germans from Russia preserves thousands of research materials and artifacts in the South Bottoms District of Lincoln.

In the early 20th century, almost a third of Lincoln’s population consisted of Germans from Russia. The research center documents the history of this group of people in Nebraska and houses items of historic significance.

“We received a donation in the mail of this beautiful wool blanket,” said Karen Keehr, executive director of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia in Lincoln. “It came with a note attached to it that said, ‘This blanket wrapped many German-Russian babies.’”…
