Lincoln medical facility says it identified first confirmed measles case in decades

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Lincoln’s MedElite Urgent Care says the measles case identified in Lancaster County was first discovered at its facility on Sunday, prompting the response from the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department.

Andrea Zach, a physician’s assistant at MedElite who diagnosed the case, said a lot of people come in this time of year with similar “common cold” symptoms such as runny noses, fevers and rashes, making it hard to narrow down a cause.

But while she had never seen a measles case in person, Zach said this particular patient had a rash that stood out to her, along with some lesions in their mouth that prompted further testing…
