Lincoln officials announced plans Thursday to make it easier for property owners to build second smaller dwellings on their properties.
Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird has proposed changing the city’s zoning code to allow what are called accessory dwelling units on smaller lots.
Currently, property owners can build the units on lots that are big enough to accommodate a two-family structure, such as a duplex or town home. Gaylor Baird’s proposed change would allow them on single-family lots.
“We want everyone to be able to afford the good life in Lincoln, and ADUs, while they may be small in size, can provide a big boost to housing affordability and our quality of life,” Gaylor Baird said during a news conference…
