No, you’re not getting a snow day

You wake up, it’s snowing and it’s Monday. Looks like one of those rough days. The weather drops, wind picks up and snow starts to fall and students anxiously refresh their inboxes hoping for the snow day message, yet they are often disappointed.

Last year, classes were affected by weather two different times, cancelling classes on Feb. 11, 2025, due to a projected 4-6 inches of snow. A little over a week later on Feb. 19, the university held a two-hour late start due to the National Weather Service predicting a windchill of -26 degrees.

Just recently, on Jan. 23, the windchill was roughly -25 degrees for most of the day, but classes remained unaffected. This begs the question, what warrants a snow day?…
