LINCOLN–(KFOR Feb. 24)–Fire investigators late Tuesday afternoon released the cause of a fire that burned part of a railroad bridge that led to a collapse early Monday morning west of downtown Lincoln.
Lincoln Fire and Rescue sent out a text alert to KFOR News and other media, indicating the cause was an “unattended campfire.” The fire was called in around 3:45am Monday, with a bridge that carries the Union Pacific rail line burning along Salt Creek east of Sun Valley Boulevard, not far from Haymarket Park and the Breslow Ice Center.
It was around 5:30am Monday when the bridge collapsed on the west side of Salt Creek. Fire crews were later called back shortly after 10am Monday about a rekindling of the fire…
