Lincoln Police officer returns fire at Office Depot burglary suspect

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A Lincoln police officer returned fire on a burglary suspect outside an Office Depot near 48th and R streets early Wednesday.

The officer was not injured and the suspect is expected to survive his injuries, police said.

A northeast team officer was dispatched to the Office Depot just after 1:30 a.m. for an alarm near the rear doors. Upon arrival, the officer located a 49-year-old man inside a small access door behind the dumpster near the back dock, LPD said.

The officer gave verbal commands to the suspect, but he did not comply, police said. According to LPD, the suspect threw a metal object before firing at the officer who returned fire, striking him in the lower extremity…
