No. 6 Huskers perfect through day one

Greensboro, N.C. – The No. 6 Nebraska Bowling team went a perfect 5-0 on day one of the Stallings Invitational The Huskers totaled a pinfall of 5,266 and a 210.6 average, finishing the day in second place.

The Huskers return to action tomorrow morning at 7:25 a.m. (central) for the first of five traditional team games against the hosts, North Carolina A&T.

The Huskers’ first opponent was Howard. Starters for the Big Red were Desiree Buchert, Abby Starkey, Brenna Hartzler, Karina Capron and Jillian Martin. The match started off close in game one before NU struck four consecutive frames in the back half to take a 201-172 lead. The Huskers continued their strong start with a five-bagger to open the second game. Capron and Martin’s combined four strikes over the final two frames sealed a 233-166 win for the Big Red. Game three saw multiple open frames, but Nebraska held on to narrowly win 182-178. Open frames remained a problem for both squads in game four but the Huskers came out on top again 183-159. The Big Red struggled in game five, allowing the Bison to take their first game 195-169. But, the Huskers were firmly in the lead, taking the match 968-870 to start the weekend with a win…
