For the love of the spin: UNL students commute to join UNO winter guard

Every Friday since November, Breanna Gomez returns from choir rehearsal to her dorm, quickly packs a suitcase and drives an hour from Lincoln to Omaha for winter guard practice. Between weekend trips, practice and competitions, the freshman music education major said she feels like she moves out of her dorm every week.

Gomez is one of nine students from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln who commute to Omaha each weekend to compete on the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Maverick Winter Guard.
