A Lincoln Police officer on routine patrol just before 9:00 Saturday night saw a 2016 Dodge Charger doing ‘donuts’ in the parking lot on the east side of Gateway Mall and conducted a traffic stop. “The officer approached the vehicle and directed the driver to pull over to a safer location,” says LPD Lt. Jason Goodwin.
He says the officer observed several other people in the vehicle that appeared to be juveniles. “The vehicle then rapidly accelerated away not obeying the officers direction,” Goodwin says. The officer did not pursue and the NSP helicopter monitored the vehicle until it stopped near 42 & Pioneers where the occupants were picked up by another vehicle.
Officers then stopped that other vehicle near Crestridge Road & East Point Road where 33-year-old Devontai Luellen of Omaha was taken into custody. Luellen was arrested and booked into the Lancaster County Jail for operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest and three counts of child abuse.
