LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) — The Food Bank of Lincoln’s Lincoln Fresh program returned Monday, with a truck at the Calvert Recreation Center distributing free fruits and vegetables to community members.
The program launched in 2019 and operates as a no-barrier option, meaning no questions are asked of those who receive food. Last year, Lincoln Fresh provided more than 223,000 pounds of food.
Produce comes from several sources. A USDA grant allows the Food Bank to purchase fresh produce directly. The organization also receives donations from farmers and through its Retail Rescue Program, which allows local grocers to remove imperfect but safe-to-eat inventory for redistribution…
