No. 10 Huskers top Mavs, 4-1

Dominant pitching by Jordy Frahm and constant pressure from the No. 10 Nebraska softball team’s offense propelled the Cornhuskers (17-5) to a 4-1 win over Omaha Saturday at Bowlin Stadium. Frahm (6-3) outdueled fellow All-American pitcher Maddia Groff, allowing just one run and two hits while walking one and striking out eight. Groff (4-3) surrendered 10 hits and three earned runs in six innings pitched for the Mavericks (14-5).

Frahm retired 16 of the first 17 batters she faced, allowing only a one-out walk to Marra Cramer in the second until Hailey Boltz singled off Frahm’s glove in the sixth. Cramer homered in the top of the seventh with two outs to account for Omaha’s only run.

Meanwhile, the Nebraska bats kept constant heat on Groff after a one-two-three first. Jesse Farrell led off the second inning with a home run. After a two-out single was stranded at first in the third, the Huskers started the fourth with four straight hits. Kacie Hoffmann drove in Hannah Camenzind with a single up the middle to boost the lead to 2-0. The inning could’ve been bigger, but Hannah Coor lined into a double play on a terrific play by Mavericks third baseman Bailey Sample. She caught Coor’s line drive with a diving, back-hand catch, and as she hit the ground to catch the ball, she tagged third base for a double play…
