LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A Weather Alert Day is in effect for Sunday as a powerful weather system moves into Nebraska, bringing damaging winds, snow, and falling temperatures that will make travel hazardous across parts of northern, northeastern and eastern Nebraska.
What to Expect Sunday
High wind watches are in place almost statewide, with gusts potentially reaching 60 mph throughout the day.
The biggest impact areas are north and northeast of Lincoln, where winter storm watches are also in effect. Across much of northeast Nebraska, blizzard conditions are possible — a combination of snow, strong winds, and reduced visibility that will make for difficult travel.
Accumulating snow will be highest north and east of the state, but minor to perhaps moderate accumulation is possible with a trace to 3″ depending on the area.
Temperatures will also take a dramatic plunge Sunday, starting in the 50s around midnight and dropping to the low 30s by afternoon.
